TendLife vs Night Shift
The closest thing to TendLife out there. Both start with the shift you just worked instead of a salary. The real differences are taxes, price, and whether you can just ask the app a question.

Pick Night Shift if…
- You need automatic tax set-aside. Their tax jar reserves a percentage for you; we have nothing equivalent.
- You want it on any device. It’s a web app that works offline; TendLife is iPhone-only.
- You’d rather pay once a year for the whole thing than deal with tiers.
- You want everything encrypted on-device and nothing synced anywhere.
Pick TendLife if…
- You don’t want to pay $99.99 before you know whether the app sticks.
- You’d rather type “can I afford this?” than read a dashboard.
- You want optional read-only bank sync instead of hand-entering every transaction.
- You want a forecast of what a Friday double is worth, from your own history.

Where Night Shift is genuinely better
The tax jar. If you’re a 1099 gig worker — delivery, rideshare, anything where nobody is withholding for you — Night Shift automatically reserves a percentage of every entry so April doesn’t take your knees out. TendLife has savings goals you could point at taxes, but nothing calculates the percentage or moves it for you. That’s a real gap and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
It’s also a web app, so it runs on whatever you’ve got, offline, encrypted on the device. TendLife is iPhone-only today.
Where TendLife is better
Price, first. Night Shift wants roughly $99.99 for year one before you know whether logging every shift is a habit you’ll actually keep. TendLife is free right now — all of it, including bank sync, no card. If it doesn’t stick, you’ve lost nothing.
Then the Money Coach. Night Shift shows you earn/owe/build as three numbers and leaves the interpreting to you. In TendLife you type “can I afford to go out tonight?” and get an answer built from your logged shifts and the bills you have coming, with one tap to log income or add a bill from the chat. When there isn’t enough history to answer, it says so instead of making a number up.
And two things Night Shift doesn’t do at all: forecasting what a given weekday tends to pay from your own shift history, and flagging when your logged tips and your actual paycheck don’t line up over a pay period.
Bank sync vs offline-first
These are opposite bets. Night Shift keeps everything on your device with AES-256 encryption and never syncs — maximum privacy, maximum typing. TendLife lets you connect an account read-only through Quiltt so transactions arrive already sorted, or skip it entirely and enter everything by hand. Cash tips work either way, because your bank never sees them regardless of which app you pick.
Price, plainly
TendLife: $0 today. Premium, when it launches, is $6 a month with a 7-day trial and cancel-anytime through Apple. Tip logging, income totals, safe-to-spend, bills, goals, forecasting, and the Coach stay free. Night Shift: trial, then roughly $99.99 for the first year and $149.99 annually after, for the whole app with no free tier underneath. Details on our pricing page.
Common questions
How much does Night Shift cost compared to TendLife?
Night Shift runs a trial and then charges for the whole app — around $99.99 for the first year and $149.99 a year after, with no permanent free tier. TendLife is free today with no card. TendLife’s planned Premium tier is $6 a month, and tip logging, safe-to-spend, bills, goals, and the Money Coach stay on the free side.
Does TendLife set money aside for taxes like Night Shift’s tax jar?
No. Night Shift has an automatic tax set-aside jar and TendLife doesn’t — if you’re a 1099 gig worker who needs quarterly taxes handled automatically, that’s a real reason to choose Night Shift. TendLife’s savings goals can be used manually for a tax pot, but nothing calculates or reserves the percentage for you.
Which one connects to your bank?
TendLife does, optionally and read-only through Quiltt, with transactions arriving pre-sorted into categories. Night Shift is offline-first by design with AES-256 encryption on device, so everything is entered by hand. Both work fine with manual entry only.
Does Night Shift have an AI coach?
No. TendLife’s Money Coach is the main functional difference — you ask a question like “can I afford to go out tonight?” in plain words and the answer comes from your logged shifts and upcoming bills, with one tap to log income or add a bill from the chat.
Which one should I pick?
Pick Night Shift if you need automatic tax set-aside, want a web app that works on any device offline, or prefer paying once a year for everything with no tiers. Pick TendLife if you want it free, want to ask questions in plain words instead of reading dashboards, or want the option of read-only bank sync so you’re not typing every transaction in by hand.
